The programs offered in the Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Science Department can help you expand your interest, knowledge and enjoyment of animals into a rewarding and profitable career.Students in the ADVS Department have opportunities for hands-on experiences in feeding, breeding, handling, managing, and grooming animals. The skills important for handling animals are taught in applied laboratory settings at the various department facilities. Students can also gain knowledge and experience by working with beef and dairy cattle, horses, sheep, and swine.Toxicology is the scientific understanding of the harmful effects of natural and synthetic chemicals at all levels – whether large-scale environmental pollutants or small-scale carcinogens – that have an incremental effect over time.Toxicology is an interdepartmental degree where students affiliate with the program through one of several departments. While students are housed in the same department as their major professor, their committees are comprised of faculty from a minimum of two to three departments, giving them multiple perspectives on their research.USU's Interdepartmental Graduate Program in Toxicology is one of the first degree-granting graduate toxicology programs in the country. More than 150 students have received MS and PhD degrees through this research-intensive interdisciplinary program. Students affiliate with the program through one of several departments: Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences (ADVS), Biology (BIOL), Chemistry and Biochemistry (CAB), Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), or Plants, Soils, and Climate (PSC). The USDA Poisonous Plants Laboratory also provides facilities and research projects for study.
