The purpose of this degree program is to prepare teachers intellectually and pragmatically to be effective in urban classrooms and to become leaders in urban school districts. Students seeking entrance into the program who have not had experience in urban settings will be required to work closely with at least one urban educator during their degree program in order to experience the urban classroom first-hand. This Master of Science in Urban Education degree program will provide the academic requirements for a NYS Professional Certificate for post-baccalaureate students through advanced study in the theory and pedagogy of urban education and further study in the content or concentration field required for professional certification.
