With a BSE in Secondary Education degree-Speech Communication and Theatre option, you will be prepared to teach both speech communication and theatre in high schools, middle schools, and career and continuing education centers. You will enjoy hands-on learning opportunities with award-winning professors. Compete on the international recognized speech and debate team. Learn to host, run and tabulate a speech/debate tournament. Explore your creativity in the Richard Herman Black Box Theatre Program. With these opportunities and a mainstage season of 10-15 productions, you will be encouraged to take leadership roles both on and off the stage. You will use the knowledge and skills obtained in this program to: Teach essential elements of speech communication and theatre at secondary school levels. Demonstrate knowledge and application of the fundamentals of communication. Demonstrate knowledge and application of public speaking concepts and principles. Demonstrate knowledge and application of the theory and practice of argumentation and debate. Demonstrate an understanding of communication ethics. Demonstrate knowledge and application of school forensics through experiential co-curricular activities. Demonstrate knowledge and application of mass communication concepts, principles and basic techniques. Communicate and collaborate effectively in the interactive and creative process of theatre. Demonstrate a working knowledge of the historical, cultural, and stylistic dimensions of drama and theatre.
