The Department of Biological Sciences provides a diverse, rigorous program with a curriculum designed to produce scientifically literate majors and non-majors knowledgeable in contemporary issues in biology. The department offers opportunities for experiential learning through close student/faculty research collaboration. We prepare our students for post-graduate programs and careers in the life sciences and health professions. The public service activities of the department are primarily directed to the regional needs of West Tennessee.<br><br>Life is filled with change and interaction: organisms interact with other organisms of the same and different species, populations and communities are established and go extinct, and all living things must interact with the physical environment. Ecology and Environmental Biology students are preparing for careers where they will help to monitor, study and understand how the world works by learning specific principles, skills and techniques for ecology and field biology.<br><br>Students interested in environmental research in an academic setting or with state or federal agencies should consider this concentration. Those interested in the growing fields of environmentally responsible green industry and technology may also find this concentration appealing.
