In addition to the application materials required by the Graduate School applicants must submit a onepage personal statement by the appropriate deadline to be considered for Fall or Spring admission
A minimum of a BS in Chemistry Biochemistry or related field is required
Students entering the program are required to have completed a BS degree in chemistry or biochemistry or related areas with appropriate chemicalbiochemicalpharmaceuticalbiological sciences background This background will include courses in organic chemistry one year plus lab biochemistry one year plus lab analytical chemistry inorganic chemistry and physical chemistry Students will be required to address deficiencies in any of these subjects prior to beginning the PhD curriculum Students who have previously completed an MS degree may request an evaluation of MS degree coursework to judge whether it counts toward the coursework requirements for the PhD in Chemistry and Biochemistry Students will also be able to transfer into the PhD program from either of the Departments MS programs Chemistry or Biochemistry as long as all admissions requirements have been fulfilled
Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and must meet the requirements for admission of the Graduate School of UNCG Students may submit GRE scores if they choose to do so The absence of GRE scores will not impact a decision and any included GRE scores will be considered when making decisions
IBT TOEFL 79 TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition score report also accepted same score and paper based - 550.
IELTS 6.5 IELTS Indicator also accepted same band score.
Duolingo English Test DET - 110.
ELS - 112 score report.
Kaplan International Higher Intermediate Level.

The Ph.D. program in chemistry and biochemistry engages students in robust coursework and stimulating research under the guidance of award-winning faculty. Students learn the chemical and biochemical principles needed to discover, develop, and design new approaches to fundamental challenges related to health, education, the environment, and energy. <br><br>Several areas of research emphasis are open to students in the program, including bioanalytical, biophysical, inorganic and bioinorganic chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry, natural products, integrative medicine, and chemical education research.<br><br>With a strong emphasis on teaching, active chemistry faculty include two UNCG Alumni Teaching Excellence Award winners, four College of Arts and Sciences Teaching Excellence award winners, and one UNC Board of Governors Teaching Excellence Award winner.<br>Faculty research is funded by National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, the N.C. Biotechnology Center, and the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund.<br>The program is accredited by the American Chemical Society.
