Chemistry provides answers to questions about the living and material world around us. Knowledge of chemistry is essential to understanding fields ranging from cell biology to materials science. We are a group of 33 faculty and staff providing dynamic educational opportunities to our 70 undergraduate majors, 205 undergraduate minors and 32 graduate students that extend beyond the classroom to the research lab and the community. Our teaching and research occur both in the newly renovated Salem Hall on the Reynolda campus and at Wake Downtown in the Innovation Quarter. <br>The department's mission is to prepare students to use their critical thinking skills and chemical knowledge to address technological and scientific challenges. Consistent with the institution's teacher-scholar model, the faculty is committed to internationally-recognized research programs and engaging all students in the scientific discovery process. The department will strive to be a recognized leader in undergraduate and graduate education by offering a rigorous and contemporary interdisciplinary curriculum and opportunities that extend beyond the traditional boundaries of chemistry, both in the classroom and research laboratories.
