Applicants are required to demonstrate successful completion of a bachelor’s degree (or degree in-progress) from a regionally accredited college or university.
Provide a personal statement that describes your interest in public health and demonstrates your understanding of public health concepts.
In addition to completing the ‘Experience’ and ‘Achievements’ sections of the SOPHAS application, you must submit a comprehensive resume or curriculum vitae.
SOPHAS requires that you provide information for a minimum of three references to receive requests for recommendations (evaluations) to be submitted electronically. The Brown School will review your application with two evaluations submitted, providing all other parts of the application are complete.

Our two-year, 52-credit-hour degree, accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health, provides you with the knowledge, skills and tools you need to take on leadership in the field of public health. This innovative curriculum was designed to be different, focused on understanding problems and creating solutions using transdisciplinary approaches. It includes outstanding research opportunities, real-world learning experiences through practicum, and unique classes and course packages.<br><br>The Epidemiology/ Biostatistics specializations cultivates advanced skills in disease investigation, data analysis and data collection and presentation. Students are equipped with the research and analytical skills to make original and substantive contributions to public health practice and research, be knowledgeable and discerning consumers of public health sciences, and effectively translate public health evidence into policy and practice. This specialization offers training for careers focusing on collection and analysis of a wide range of health-related data. Students develop skills using multiple software tools to analyze public health data, including SAS, SPSS, Stata and/or R. In addition, the increasing availability of digital data resulting from innovations in medical and biological informatics will provide a wealth of new opportunities for students graduating with this specialization. Students will be competitive for public health careers in many sectors focused on improving population health. Graduates seek positions in health departments, research institutes, corporations, HMOs and as federal contactors.
