The study of biostatistics enables you to contribute valuable data to the understanding of all types of public health issuesfrom the causes and origins of disease to the efficacy of specific medical treatments to the effects of environmental hazards. With this concentration, you will learn to apply statistical methods, along with related data management and mining techniques, to problems in various fields, such as health sciences, medicine, and biology. In addition to the core, foundational studies required for the Master of Public Health degree, you can select from a rich list of courses in experimental analysis and research design, multivariate statistical analysis, and other advanced statistical methodologies. You may choose to earn a secondary major in epidemiology. You will also have many opportunities to balance your theoretical knowledge with professional experience, including research, teaching, and service projects with IU faculty. To complete your degree, you will spend your last semester on an applied practice experience, working directly in the field setting that will prepare you for positions such as medical data analyst, clinical trials supervisor, or statistical consultant.
