To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:
You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences. A weighted GPA takes into account the extra difficulty of honors, AP or IB classes.
If you are not admissible, you will be offered enrollment to a Nevada NSHE Community College. You will be offered admission to a Nevada university once you have completed a minimum of 24 college transferable semester credits at a NSHE Community College and have a 2.5 GPA in all your coursework.
If you are a student who does not meet our academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University. You must also meet the 13 core course requirements in English, mathematics, social studies and natural sciences to be considered for admission.
You must submit your final, official high school transcripts to support your application for admission.

The major in microbiology and immunology focuses on modern microbiology, with special attention to human and animal immunology.<br><br><br>Learning outcomes<br><br>Jointly offered by the College of Science and the School of Medicine, the bachelor's degree program in microbiology and immunology is designed for students who are interested in a career in laboratory research. Our courses will include introductory courses in math, biology, chemistry and physics before you move on to complete advanced courses in microbiology and immunology. <br><br>During the program, you are encouraged to get involved in research supervised by one of the program faculty members, focusing on medical research. Students who major in microbiology and immunology are also well prepared to apply for admission to graduate or professional school in the health sciences, including dental and medical schools.<br><br>Working in a research lab as an undergraduate is an invaluable complement to your coursework. After graduation, microbiology and immunology students may puruse a career with a research component, so having research experience is a great addition to your resume and allows you to explore possible career paths before graduation.<br><br>Research also provides you an opportunity to get experience with basic lab techniques, troubleshooting experiments and scientific problem solving as well as working as part of a team. You'll also be able to develop mentoring relationships with faculty and advanced graduate students, who can help you build your professional network and develop your research skills.
