To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:
You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences. A weighted GPA takes into account the extra difficulty of honors, AP or IB classes.
You must submit your final, official high school transcripts to support your application for admission.
SAT/ACT scores: We do not require SAT or ACT scores for admission or scholarship consideration
IELTS (must be academic version) with a score of 6.0 plus
TOEFL score 61 plus

The department offers a series of courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology (MI). The major is a joint effort by the School of Medicine and the College of Science and trains students in the fundamentals of modern microbiology, with an emphasis on human and animal infectious diseases and immunology. Students are encouraged to become involved in laboratory research supervised by one of the faculty members who pursue a variety of medically related endeavors.<br>The MI curriculum will appeal to students who wish to pursue careers in microbiology research and clinical laboratory microbiology. In addition, the MI program is an excellent preparation for pre-health professional students seeking admission to professional programs in the health sciences and dental and medical schools.<br>The program of study will include the University Core Curriculum, general electives, and required preparatory courses in mathematics, biology, chemistry, and physics. Students will be required to complete eleven core courses in microbiology and immunology, along with a capstone course in microbiology. Because of curricular overlaps, students cannot pursue dual majors in MI and Biology either concurrently or subsequently.<br>Students who complete the Microbiology and Immunology, B.S. program will be able to:<br>demonstrate mastery of the core concepts in the disciplines of Microbiology & Immunology.<br>discuss science and scientific methodology as a way of knowing, demonstrate competence in laboratory techniques, and apply appropriate quantitative and data analysis skills.<br>obtain relevant information, process and evaluate this information using critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and demonstrate competence in written and oral communication.<br>identify and discuss the ethical issues and responsibilities of conducting science.<br>function effectively as professionals and to continue their development and learning within the fields of Microbiology & Immunology.
