You must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4-point scale (or equivalent).
You should have a demonstrated ability to perform independent research.
Please submit a 2-3 page statement of purpose that details your academic and/or professional achievements, your specific areas of interest within your desired field of study, why you are a strong candidate for graduate studies at CGU, and your career goals.
Applicants must submit a sealed, official transcript from every undergraduate and graduate institution that has granted the applicant a degree. For undergraduate coursework, applicants are required to submit proof of a completed bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Applicants must submit a copy of their resume.
All applicants must submit scores from the general section of the GRE unless otherwise stated. Please visit the Official Test Scores webpage for additional information.
Three letters of recommendation
A minimum TOEFL score of 95 iBT, or a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 with no sub-score lower than 6.5, is required for direct-entry admission. Admitted students who score below 95 iBT on the TOEFL, or below 7.0 on the IELTS, will be required to successfully complete ISP (earning a grade of B or higher in each required ISP course) prior to beginning their degree programs.

Claremont Graduate University's MS and PhD programs in Botany focus on systematics and evolution of higher plants. The programs are offered in conjunction with Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, one of the nation's premier research-focused botanic gardens. Claremont Graduate University's MS in Botany is a research-intensive program with a robust fieldwork component. Located in a unique 86-acre learning environment dedicated to conservation of the state's flora, facilities include a botanical library, fully equipped molecular and anatomy laboratories, comprehensive herbarium, scanning electron microscope, greenhouses, and growth chambers. Youll find abundant opportunities for hands-on research at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, working alongside collegial faculty-mentors dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field. A seminar series addressing topics of systematic and evolutionary botany is offered weekly during each semester and draws attendees not only from our student body but also from the biology research community, faculty, and students at nearby colleges and universities.
