A Master of Science (MSc) will develop your technical, laboratory and academic writing skills to prepare you for a career in science.<br><br>The MSc by thesis will take you between 12 and 15 months to complete. You'll carry out in-depth supervised research and write a thesis. During your studies you might also author publications for peer-reviewed journals.<br><br>To do an MSc by thesis you'll need an Honours degree or postgraduate diploma in an appropriate field, with an average grade of B or higher in your subject area.<br><br>Build on your skills in mathematics, physics, computing and earth sciences to study the structure and processes of the Earth or atmosphere. Taught by the School of Geography, Environment and Earth Sciences, Geophysics at Victoria is grouped into two areas—Solid Earth Geophysics and Meteorology. Meteorology - Meteorology courses are delivered in conjunction with staff from MetService. You'll also work with Dr Jim McGregor and Professor James Renwick on researching global and regional climates, and precipitation forecasting using global and regional weather model data. Study at the only university in New Zealand that offers qualifications in meteorology. Solid Earth - Solid Earth examines the physical processes behind earthquakes, volcanoes, Earth deformation and geothermal activity. You'll also look at the structure and dynamics of the Earth from seismic, geodetic, electromagnetic and gravity data, and its relation to plate tectonics.
