The following course-specific admission requirements are mandatory and must be satisfied by all applicants. These requirements are in addition to or supersede the minimum requirements outlined within the Academic admission requirements band section below.
All applicants are required to hold a Master by Coursework in a related field. Alternatively applicants can hold an Honours degree, or the equivalent in a relevant field from a recognised University, Applicants seeking online study will be required to provide additional information to support their application, as not all projects nor disciplines are suited to online study.
Academic admission requirements (Band 10) may be satisfied through completion of one of the following:
Masters Degree (Research),
Masters Degree (Coursework) in a related discipline area,
Masters Degree (Coursework) with 2/3 research component, or
Bachelor Honours Degree.
It is desirable that all applicants contact a potential supervisor to discuss their research project before applying. Information about ECU's Research Institutions, Centres and Supervisors can be found in the school brochures listed on the Applying for a Research Degree website or the staff contact page of the relevant School.
IELTS Academic Overall band minimum score of 6.5 (no individual band less than 6.0),
TOEFL iBT or TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition - Minimum score of 84, with no individual score less than 17.
TOEFL paper-based test (PBT) - Minimum score of 573, including Test of Written English of 5.0 or better.

Medical Science research at ECU concentrates on Neuroscience (with an emphasis on Alzheimer's and Huntington's disease), Cancer (with an emphasis on Melanoma), Reproductive Biology and Evolutionary Biology.<br> <br>Specific postgraduate research topics are developed in conjunction with the postgraduate coordinator or potential supervisor. Applications are particularly encouraged from those with an interest in: Genetics/Epigenetics of Alzheimer's disease, Early Diagnosis and Prevention of Alzheimer's disease, Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART), Reproductive Health and Pregnancy Blood based biomarkers for Melanoma and other cancers, The family and intergenerational health, Suboptimal Health Glycomics Researchers in the school are currently involved in projects investigating how genetics plays a role in the rate at which Alzheimer's disease progresses, the impact of lifestyle factors on preventing Alzheimer's disease and biomarker studies in Alzheimer's disease. Other projects include blood based diagnostic and prognostic markers of melanoma and other cancers and biomarkers of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Researchers are also involved in the Busselton Health Ageing Study, E health working with dementia, improving ART outcomes, factors that impact foetal and placental growth, the role of grandparents in family and community health and applying evolutionary perspectives to health and disease. The School also boasts purpose built medical science research laboratories and access to a purpose built neuroscience facility, all with state-of-the-art research equipment.
