课程简介
This Royal Society of Biology-approved course is delivered by research and industry-experienced teaching staff. Why choose this courseThis course is accredited by the Royal Society of BiologyEmphasising the applied nature of the fascinating Biological Sciences subjects, this course aims to create and develop practical and general skills, preparing students for the myriad careers made available with their eventual qualification.Opportunities for graduates reflect the vast range of topics covered under Biological Sciences, providing an in-depth education in the molecular, cellular and genetic activities of micro-organisms, plants and animals. The structure of your curriculum will reflect this approach, making use of the prior experience of professionals and opportunities for industrial experiences to build technical competence, time management and other transferrable abilities. What happens on the courseThis course has been constructed to form a foundational knowledge of Biological Sciences topics to be consistently built upon, each year of your course developing your understanding with a guiding mindfulness for specialisation and practical application. Core, transferrable abilities will also be keenly trained, providing aptitude in broad academic fields, IT literacy, laboratory skills and study discipline, all of which serve to dramatically enhance your employability. The biology of micro-organisms, plants and animals will be taught early in your curriculum, explaining the genetic, molecular and chemical bases of life in preparation for deeper exploration with further specialisation in concurrent years. In your final year, such topics as animal biology and behaviour, food microbiology, plant biotechnology and the ethics of biological exploitation will be available to study. An area where these aspects of study culminate will be your Honours research project, one which you will prepare for over multiple years and will revolve around a specialist topic of your choosing.Core to all teaching of this course is the applied nature of Biological Sciences, making use of the specialist resources available in the University’s Rosalind Franklin building – facilities for genetic, molecular and product analysis, as well as for growing cells including a separate fermentation suite, among others – to inform your practice in future careers. Positions secured in your sandwich placement year will serve this purpose further, with the full support of the University’s careers service and the School’s enthusiastic staff.
