A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree involves original and sustained research, mentored by an academic supervisor. It’s an opportunity to make new discoveries, address some of the big issues of our time, challenge yourself, and develop a mix of transferable and specialised skills. Take your knowledge of the mechanics of life to the next level—be at the forefront of science innovation and discovery with the School of Biological Sciences. Go deeper into the world of chemistry and biology as you examine life and cellular processes at the molecular level. Learn about methods of clinical analysis, the biochemical basis of therapeutics and biochemical pharmacology. Explore the research and modern concepts in heredity, genomics, gene regulation and molecular microbiology. Examine cellular structure, function and behaviour and look at advances in physiological and pharmacological sciences. Focus on an area of interest in your self-directed study course or your thesis. Through your own experiments you'll develop advanced skills in research design, implementation and analysis and build your ability to communicate your findings.
