Neuroscience is the structural and functional study of the nervous system in health and disease from early development through to aging. Understanding how the brain and nervous system interact with other physiological systems and the external environment is an ever-expanding area of science. This programme will explore the nervous system from molecules to mind with a focus on current and developing technologies that drive our understanding of the brain and nervous system in health and disease.
The degree covers topics from molecules to mind, from cellular neuroscience to cognitive neuroscience. World class neuroscience researchers with active cutting-edge research labs contribute to teaching across all years of the course. There is an option to enrol on MSci in Neuroscience, which includes a placement year in industry or academic research between years 3 and 4. In final year there are options to complete the final year research project in a lab or in pubic engagement or in educational outreach.
A broad range of research-led courses are available in final year for students to choose a neuroscience area of interest. Training in research design, data handling, data analysis and scientific communication. All courses are designed and taught with graduate attributes in mind to encourage development of transferable skills for a broad range of careers.
Our graduates have gone on to a range of exciting and challenging careers including as research scientists within academia and the pharmaceutical industry, further study to become medical professionals, teachers and lawyers, as well as a range of non-scientific career positions including civil servants, human resources managers and consultants.
