Biochemistry examines the structure and function of living organisms at the molecular level. Our biochemistry with genetics degree enables you to study biochemistry with a focus on the genetic blueprint of life - DNA. This is an exciting and rapidly expanding field, which has been at the forefront of many of the advances in biology and medicine. Lancaster University is ranked fifth in the UK for biological sciences and 12th for chemistry by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019. In the first year of the BSc Biochemistry with Genetics, you'll study a range of modules designed to provide you with a broad overview of biology and chemistry, with modules such as Genetics, Protein Biochemistry and Human Physiology. In your second year, you'll study a range of biochemical and molecular biology subjects including several modules designed to develop the key laboratory skills required by scientists in modern biochemical and genetic research environments. These modules include Biochemical Techniques, Cell Biology Techniques and DNA Technology. You will have the flexibility to tailor your third year to your interests and can select from a diverse range of subjects including Medical Genetics, Protein Biochemistry and Cancer. During your degree, you will conduct your own laboratory-based project and benefit from the research experience of our internationally renowned academics.
