To qualify for admission to the Bachelor of Science (Honours), you must have qualified for or be a graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent from the University of Sydney or equivalent qualification from another tertiary institution;have completed a relevant major (i.e. minimum of 24 credit points of 3000-level units of study) relating to the intended Honours discipline;have achieved a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 65.00 or have a credit average (65.00) in 48 credit points of relevant* 2000-level and 3000-level units of study; andsatisfy any additional criteria set by the relevant Head of School or Discipline.

Our double degree allows school leavers who have achieved exceptional results to commence a three-year undergraduate science degree followed by the four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD). With a deeper understanding of the scientific fundamentals that underpin medicine, you will be better prepared for any career in medicine from specialisation to research and teaching. As a Bachelor of Science student you will be taught by the best and most dedicated scientific thinkers, including members of the Australian Academy of Science, Australian Research Council Fellows and many staff members who have won prestigious prizes such as the Prime Minister's Prizes for Science and Eureka Prizes. You will learn in world-class facilities, including the multi-million-dollar Sydney Nanoscience Hub building and the Charles Perkins Centre for diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular disease. The Doctor of Medicine is fully accredited by the Australian Medical Council. Graduates are eligible for provisional registration as interns in any Australian state or territory, and in New Zealand.Statistics is pervasive in all areas of the sciences, the social sciences, finance and business, and is the key paradigm used to assess the strength of evidence from all kinds of data. In a statistics major, students learn about theoretical, computational, and applied statistics, and probability theory. As part of the major students will apply the techniques that they learn to a variety of of applications. Students learn about quantifying uncertainty, experimental design, probabilistic modelling and the latest techniques in statistical and machine learning. This major is essential training if you wish to become a professional statistician.A major in statistics is not only a pathway to professional employment as a statistician, but an invaluable adjunct to your career in any area. Graduating with a major in statistics and another science area enhances your value to prospective employers and is an excellent foundation for all types of scientific research.
