Big picture. Big ideas. A stimulating and challenging program for high-achieving students with a passion for understanding the world we live in. Throughout this four year Honours program you will develop valuable logical reasoning, communication and creative thinking skills that can be applied across a range of areas and industries. Our humanities disciplines study society and culture in all its forms, looking for answers to significant and urgent social problems. You'll join an engaging cohort who'll stay together throughout the four years of study. You will also enjoy a number of extracurricular activities, such as an orientation camp in your first year. The Bachelor of Advanced Humanities (Honours) is a rigorous and challenging program for high-achieving students with a keen interest in the humanities. You will engage with the Faculty's leading humanities researchers from your first year of study through a suite of core interdisciplinary courses taken in each year. These courses will expose you to contemporary thinking in the humanities, provide a forum for interdisciplinary discussion and emphasize connections across humanities disciplines. The program includes an industry internship, and you will complete Honours by the end of the fourth year. The program also provides tailored extracurricular activities including a camp at the beginning of your studies and a conference mid-way through the final year. A Study Abroad option is also available in the second year. Students applying to change program and/or applying for credit on the basis of previous studies should seek advice from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. <br><br>Demand is at an all-time high for trained mathematicians. Statistics, operations research and financial mathematics are the areas of mathematics most often used in industry and there has been a particular upsurge in the number of mathematicians employed in banking, finance, insurance and risk management. Graduates with a degree in any area of mathematics are respected for their excellent quantitative and problem- solving abilities and gain a wide range of rewarding positions in the public and private sectors. UQ offers a wide range of courses in mathematics and its applications. In first year, students study essential topics in calculus, linear algebra and differential equations. In later years, there is an emphasis new ideas in mathematics and include recent applications in coding and cryptology.
