A baccalaureate degree or its academic equivalent from an accredited academic institution recognized by the University of Alberta.
3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale on the most recent two-years of full-time study (or equivalent) (MSc Program)
3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale on the most recent two-years of full-time study (or equivalent) (MEng Program)
3.3 GPA on a 4.0 scale on the most recent two-years of full-time study (or equivalent) (PhD Program)

Curriculum vitae (CV)
Expression of Interest (letter/email) from Potential Supervisor (MSc and PhD ONLY)
Statement of Purpose (PhD ONLY)
Three (3) academic references are required from academic staff members capable of assessing the applicant's academic and research ability. At least two academic references are mandatory and a maximum of one (1) professional (work) reference is allowed. References are requested via the web application by the applicant and are uploaded directly to the application by the referee. No hardcopies are required. Students who are graduating from the UofA do not have to provide the references.
Official English Language Proficiency scores (if applicable) such as TOEFL (Academic), IELTS (Academic), MELAB, PTE or CAEL. See FGSR's ELP requirement. The GRE is NOT required nor is it used in the evaluation process.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT, in-person or special at-home edition) - Total score of 90 with a score of at least 21 on each of the individual skill areas (internet-based) or equivalent
Academic International English Language Testing System
(IELTS) Revised to: 6.5, with at least 6.0 on each test band

Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and the School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering degree programs. The Department & School offer graduate students specialized research degree programs leading to three graduate degree programs: Master of Science (MSc), Master of Engineering (MEng), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).Our research groups have access to many unique, state-of-the-art laboratories, an excellent support network, and an active and integrative local industry.Our Department is home to many world leaders in their disciplines, including six NSERC Industrial Research Chairs, the Nanofibre Research Chair in Forest Products, the C.W. Carry Professor of Steel Structures, the MCAA Chair in Masonry Systems and a Canada Research Chair in Natural Resources Uncertainty Management, among many others who are active, internationally-recognized leaders in their research areas.This program can be completed within 15 to 18 months. The maximum time permitted is four years from date of registration.The MSc program, a full-time research based program, will help you advance your knowledge and skills by providing you with that extra edge needed to get ahead.
