Admission to the PhD program does not require that the student already hold a Master's degree. Students whose ultimate goal is to earn a PhD are advised to apply directly to this program.
We do not require you to have a masters degree before applying to our Ph.D. degree. As long as you have an accredited 4 year bachelor's degree you are eligible to apply our Ph.D. program.

Faculty research is broadly focused in three synergistic areas: Sustainable Energy Systems, Biomolecular Engineering, and Biomechanics. Within these areas, projects are focused on: chemical and biological catalysis and kinetics, chemical and biological fuel cells, biofilm engineering, sensor technologies, cardiac and reproductive molecular engineering, and molecular, cellular, and musculskeletal mechanics.<br>Specialized equipment includes a suite of instruments for characterizing reactive surface reactions (operando XPS, XRD adn Raman all with specialized reactors). Unique biological applications of circular dichroism spectroscopy, AFM, and confocal microscopy, robust microelectrode development and application, as well as numerous custom reactors equipped with advanced chemical measurement.<br>The graduate programs are flexible, allowing students to develop a program that fits individual needs. A master of science is typically completed in 1-2 years, and a doctorate in 4-5 years after completion of the bachelor of science degree.
