Applicants are required to submit three letters of recommendation, a statement of interest, official transcript(s) delivered and/or mailed in a sealed envelope by the Registrar of the college/university attended, and the most recent Graduate Record Examination scores. Highly qualified applicants holding a Bachelor's or a Master's degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences, or Mathematics, from a nationally accredited institution or applicants with equivalent qualifications from foreign institutions are eligible for admission into the Mechanical Engineering doctoral program. Applicants with inadequate preparation in their major field of study will be required to take the necessary undergraduate courses to remove any deficiencies. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing scores reported to Howard University School Code (5297) Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.00 for graduate TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) a score of 90 on the Internet base (IBT) is required for applicants whose native language is not English. Official TOEFL scores must be sent directly from ETS. The TOEFL test is only waived if the applicant has received a degree in the U.S. In lieu of the TOEFL (if not offered in your country), applicants may submit results from IELTS (International English Language Testing System) with an overall score of a 6.5.
