As a Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) graduate at the University of Central Missouri, you would typically have a position that deals with design, application, research & development, and manufacturing of products or machines that produce a product. Some examples of your future job might be the design and implementation of machining fixtures or the management of a design or engineering department in a manufacturing company. Graduates from this program can start off at the supervisory level but typically move up to leader or management positions very quickly. As a Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) major you will not only have the opportunity to design using the most modern CADD 3D software packages but you will also have a good understanding of materials, processes, engineering economics, and lean concepts utilized in industry. MET students understand engineering theory and are able to applying those theories in numerous laboratories and real-world settings. Some examples of the theory-to-application learning that takes place in our courses include: precision machining projects, 3D CADD design and virtual testing, rapid prototyping, destructive testing, computer numerical control machining, inspection using coordinate measuring equipment, welding projects, and much more. One of the most exciting projects you can be part of is the NASA Human Rover Challenge, where students design and fabricate a human powered vehicle to traverse simulated lunar and martian terrain. In addition, you will have the opportunity to showcase your skills and knowledge through a capstone class during your senior year, where you will work with a local industry to help solve one of their actual problems with design, production, quality, etc.
