International students must obtain a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)or the IELTS (International English Language Testing System). The minimum acceptable score for the TOEFL is 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test, or a total score of 80 with a 19 on the speaking section for the internet-based test. The minimum composite score for the IELTS is 6.5. The TOEFL exam must be taken within three years of the application date. Completion of a Master of Science degree with research thesis in an appropriate field of scientific or technical study is expected for applicants to the BRS Ph.D. program. Some examples of suitable Master's Degree programs include Agricultural Systems Management, Biology, Biochemistry, Biorenewable Systems, Environmental Resource Management, Materials Science, and Wood Science. Statement of Purpose, Resume or Curriculum Vita, Three letters of recommendation are required from teachers and/or professional colleagues, who are knowledgeable about your character and qualifications as they relate to your potential to succeed in an advanced graduate degree program. Biorenewable systems are the structures and processes that create and support biologically-based products capable of being continuously replaced through sound technology and management. The BioRenewable Systems (BRS) degree is offered as a resident instruction, research-based M.S. and Ph.D. program. The degree requires a thesis at both levels.<br>We offer Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degree programs in the BioRenewable Systems (BRS) Graduate Program.<br>The BioRenewable Systems major:<br><br>Integrates science and technology with business (marketing, management, entrepreneurship, and leadership) for bio-based products/materials and their supply chains,<br>Provides an alternative high-quality graduate degree program for students without an engineering undergraduate degree, and<br>Prepares graduates to lead the development and advancement of the growing bio-based economy in key industry sectors: bio-based fuels, energy, chemicals, plastics, and packaging, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics.
