Statement of Purpose-
The statement of purpose is a short narrative where the applicant describes what she or he would like to do for their MS or PhD degree.
GPA Requirement-
To be accepted as graduate degree candidates, applicants must have maintained an average of B (3.00 on a 4.00 scale) or better in their undergraduate work.
TOEFL iBT - An overall score of 80 or above
Reading: 19 ,Writing: 18, Listening: 17, Speaking: 18
The minimum score on the Paper-based TOEFL is 550.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): All scores must be sent directly to URI. Required minimum score of 6.5, AND minimum scores in the following areas:
Reading: 6.5, Writing: 6.5, Listening: 6.5, Speaking: 6.5
Duolingo English Test: Required minimum score of 105
International English Language Testing System (IELTS): Required minimum score of 6.5. IELTS scores must be sent directly to URI.

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering offers a curriculum leading to the Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering (M.S.), and the Doctor of Philosophy in Civil and Environmental Engineering (Ph.D.) degrees. Graduate students specialize in one of the four available areas: Environmental Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Transportation Engineering.
