Foundation Entry degree courses are designed for students who have the ability to study for a degree, but don't have the necessary formal qualifications to enter directly onto their chosen Honours degree programme. Further develop your ability to apply a socially aware, responsible and consistent approach to design, manufacturing and organisation – essential for professional engineers - and meet the academic criteria you need to progress to Chartered Engineer status. Throughout your studies you'll apply modern computer-aided engineering techniques to the manufacturing industry, studying modules designed to improve your analysis and problem-solving capabilities - and in your final year, you'll take part in student-led project and individual projects to put all of your new skills into real-world application. You'll graduate thoroughly prepared to take on the engineering industry. This course offers an optional 48-week sandwich placement in industry – this comes between the second and third years. You are responsible for finding your own placement. We will support you in preparation for this with the Faculty Placement Team and UCLan Careers, who can help you plan and develop your CV and applications, and have practice interviews. Placements are an invaluable opportunity to help consolidate your first two years learning, gain experience, and radically enhance your employability. The benefit of the experience gained during a placement is often evident in improved performance in the final year of the course, and when competing for graduate jobs.<br><br>On successful completion of this programme, you will be eligible to apply for progression to postgraduate studies.<br><br>A first or second class honours degree in Computer Aided Engineering will allow proceeding to master studies. Students may apply to suitable masters in mechanical engineering, manufacturing, product design or management.<br><br>A third class honour degree in Computer Aided Engineering will allow proceeding to further to postgraduate studies.<br><br>Graduates in CAE pursue careers in a wide range of industries including aerospace, marine, nuclear and petrochemical. Their roles are usually in design, manufacturing or production.
