The University offers a bachelor of science (BS) in geology that provides students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed for successful careers in earth and environmental sciences. The program is also excellent preparation for graduate studies.<br><br>The Geology Program offers an interdisciplinary approach that focuses on our understanding of the Earth, its oceans, its life, and the influence of humans on the environment.<br>Coursework includes a required core of coursework in geology, mathematics, chemistry, and physics. Electives within the program enable each student to tailor the program to meet specific career goals. Students have the option of diversifying their electives to cover a broad spectrum of geologic topics, or they may tailor their electives to focus on such discipline-related topics as environmental geosciences, water resources, geochemistry, geoarchaeology, and physical geology.<br>Students benefit from one-on-one guidance from dedicated faculty mentors with diverse expertise. Most hold doctoral degrees-and all engage in research and scholarly publication. Coursework is further enriched with lectures and presentations by graduate student researchers and visiting scholars from around the nation and overseas.
