To be admitted to an undergraduate degree program as a regular freshman student, you must be a graduate from an approved or accredited high school (GED certificate may not be used for admission) and satisfy the below requirements:
You must have a 3.0 weighted GPA in the academic core courses in order to be admitted to the University of Nevada, Reno. The academic courses include: English, math, social sciences and natural sciences. A weighted GPA takes into account the extra difficulty of honors, AP or IB classes.
If you are not admissible, you will be offered enrollment to a Nevada NSHE Community College. You will be offered admission to a Nevada university once you have completed a minimum of 24 college transferable semester credits at a NSHE Community College and have a 2.5 GPA in all your coursework.
If you are a student who does not meet our academic GPA requirements, but have graduated with an Advanced Diploma from a Nevada high school, you will be granted admission to the University. You must also meet the 13 core course requirements in English, mathematics, social studies and natural sciences to be considered for admission.
You must submit your final, official high school transcripts to support your application for admission.

The bachelor's program in chemistry provides strong training for careers in chemistry and flexibility to pursue other areas, such as allied health sciences or K-12 teaching. With four available emphases, you have the opportunity to pursue what interests you most.<br><br><br>Learning outcomes<br><br>Chemistry majors complete courses providing a solid background in the physical sciences and mathematics, together with a sequence of courses in general, analytical, organic, inorganic and physical chemistry. Lecture classes are complemented by laboratories that give hands-on experience in chemical methods and instrumentation. The department also strongly encourages undergraduate students to become involved in laboratory research under the supervision of a faculty member. Undergraduate research is an outstanding learning opportunity that cannot be found in classwork alone.<br><br>Graduates of the bachelor's degree in chemistry will graduate with the skills to:<br><br> Work in a lab alongside professional chemists<br> Seek their careers of choice, whether in research, teaching, or health sciences<br> Pursue competitive and challenging graduate programs, whether in the Department of Chemistry or elsewhere
