Gain an in-depth knowledge of chemistry, and the ability to use your expertise to solve environmental problems. Youll graduate ready to investigate chemicals and processes in the environment, assess environmental risk from pollutants and other disturbances, and use qualitative and quantitative approaches for environmental impact assessment and audits. <br>Our specialist program has a co-op option that gives you 12 total months of paid work experience in the field and the chance to make industry connections before you graduate. Your first year will focus on fundamentals across various disciplines, including biology, chemistry, physics, math and environmental science, you'll then develop foundational skills across areas of chemistry while also taking specialized courses in environmental chemistry. And youll create new scientific knowledge through a directed research project in your last year. Our major program gives you both theoretical knowledge and practical lab skills throughout your coursework, along with the flexibility to combine your studies with other major and minor programs. Youll be introduced to the main areas within chemistry, with an emphasis on analytical, environmental, inorganic, and organic chemistry, and gain a strong, foundational knowledge of the environmental sciences.<br>This program has received accreditation by the Chemical Institute of Canada, in recognition of the extensive number of lab courses and numerous experiential learning opportunities available to our students.
