国际学生入学条件
Transcripts from all colleges or universities attended are required. Transcripts may be sent directly from the
Registrar of the institution you attended or transcripts issued directly to the applicant, and so marked, are
acceptable, and can be submitted online following the electronic submission process. If you attended Caltech as
an undergraduate, you must request an official transcript from the Office of the Registrar. We cannot obtain one
on your behalf.
Attach a CV or resume that includes the following, if applicable:
1) Teaching, professional, and vocational experience (include military service, but omit summer or part-time
work not relevant to your professional goals)
2) Research experience
3) Major academic recognitions, honors, and memberships in scientific, professional and honorary societies
4) Professional activities
5) Significant extracurricular activities
6) Conference presentations
7) Titles of publications, major papers, or theses authored or co-authored, if published provide citation. Do not
upload the entire document as the admissions committee often does not have the time to read a large file.
It is preferred that you either list or provide links or a URL where publications can be located.
Caltech does not have a minimum GPA requirement. However, most successful applicants have a US GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and/or are in the top 5 to 10% of their class.
GPA's should only be reported for those schools attended within the United States. International GPA's or rankings should not converted to the standard US grade point average.
Applicants who have studied in the US for two or more years
Applicants with a degree from a college or university whose primary instruction is in English
Please note that regardless of any documentation of English proficiency submitted as part of the admissions process, all non-native English speakers who have not attended a school where English is the primary language of instruction will be screened prior to enrollment and may be required to take additional English as a Second Language (ESL) courses.
There is no minimum requirement for the English proficiency exams. However, all new students who have had limited instruction in English will participate in a one-on-one English evaluation with the ESL instructor during Orientation and may be asked to enroll in an English as a Second Language (ESL) course.

课程简介
Caltech is one of the top centers of planetary science research in the world. We are active in most areas of study, not just through the efforts of planetary science faculty and students but because there are other parts of Caltech (astronomy, geology, geochemistry, environmental science and engineering) who contribute in major ways to this interdisciplinary field. Close proximity to JPL enhances our efforts. We have astronomical observers studying bodies in our solar system and planets around other stars, people who are involved in current and future spacecraft missions, people who study geology and processes on Mars, atmospheric circulation and chemistry in planetary atmospheres, indeed just about anything of interest in planetary science. In addition to general Institute and basic division requirements, candidates for the Ph.D. degree in planetary science must satisfy the following course requirements: Ge 101, Ge 102, and courses in planetary formation and dynamics (Ge/Ay 133), planetary atmospheres (Ge/ESE 150), planetary interiors (Ge 131), and planetary surfaces (Ge 151). In addition, students shall successfully complete 45 units of 100-level or higher courses in a coherent field of specialization. This requirement may be satisfied by completion of a subject minor or through a set of courses chosen in consultation with and approved by the adviser and the option representative. All candidates are expected to possess knowledge of physics and mathematics at the level of Ge 108, and higher-level mathematics and physics courses are strongly encouraged. This requirement may be met by previous coursework or through successful completion of this class. All candidates are expected to attend the planetary sciences seminar regularly and register for six terms of Ge 109 (planetary sciences section of oral communication) for a total of 6 units, nominally in the first year and second year. Satisfaction of the oral presentation coursework requirement includes at least one 30-minute presentation by the student in the planetary sciences seminar. Typically, students will present on their research work each year after the first year.
