All official Transcripts. A bachelor's degree or its foreign equivalent from an accredited college or university. Official transcripts of your grades. Three letters of recommendation. Applicants are required to upload a transcript (may be unofficial at this time) including the key from all attended colleges or universities.The transcript must show the name of the student, name of the issuing institution, name of courses taken, and the grades received in those courses. The Graduate School does not have a minimum TOEFL or IELTS score requirement. If you are offered admission and accept our offer and have scored below a 27 on the Speaking sub-section of the TOEFL iBT or below an 8.0 on the Speaking sub-section of the IELTS you will be required to take an English placement test at the start of the fall term. Students who do not pass the test will be required to enroll in English Language Program classes.
Normally, a student accepted by Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is expected to have met requirements for a bachelor's degree in engineering or science. It is not necessary that the degree be in aeronautical or mechanical engineering. Qualified and interested students with degrees in mathematics, materials, physics, chemical, civil, or electrical engineering are also encouraged to apply.

Lasers are important as diagnostic tools and in instruments whose use spans a spectrum from materials fabrication to medical applications. The underlying physics is applied to diverse areas such as advanced propulsion systems, X-ray generation, and understanding the properties of complex materials and fluids. This area includes laser technology and applications, X-ray lasers, flow field and combustion diagnostics, multiphoton processes and nonlinear optics, high-energy lasers, atomic and molecular spectroscopy, molecular dynamics, plasmadynamics, high field phenomena, controlled laser-driven molecular and acoustic processes, picosecond and subpicosecond sources, high-energy incoherent source development, advanced spacecraft propulsion, space plasma physics, active space experiments, electric discharge and radiation studies. The mission of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is to educate leaders in engineering and applied sciences through a rigorous graduate program that defines the frontiers of knowledge in our field, and prepare them for careers in academia, industry, and government. Our program emphasizes achieving fundamental understanding in a broad range of topics, a deep understanding in a particular area, and excellent communications skills.
