Information systems majors can be involved in student chapters of professional organizations, including the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), GUBotDev and Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity. Graduates of the program enjoy a 100-percent placement rate in either employment or graduate studies. Become an employable, accountable computing professional who develops computer-based systems that meets or exceeds expectations. The information systems (IS) program is designed to prepare the student for careers in the information processing and technology industries. Students develop skills in the design, modeling and development of computer-based information systems. These include two primary areas of study: computing and business. To support the development of computing skills, students learn to utilize and critique technology associated with the systems and apply them to business. To support the development of business skills, a portion of the curriculum emphasizes the role and concepts of the different functional areas of business. In addition, students develop communication and interpersonal skills in order to prepare them to interact positively in the marketplace. Students incorporate facets of their professional education with facets of societal awareness to make ethical decisions, both professional and personal. Ultimately, the students leave with the foundation to define a high quality of life by integrating their profession with lifestyle decisions. IS majors will develop skills in design, modeling and development of computer and information systems. To support these technical skills, students learn to practice teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills.
