Applicants must meet the minimum university requirements for graduate study. Admission to the program requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with at least a 3.00 (on a 4.00 scale) grade point average in last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework. International students whose first language is not English should take the TOEFL examination to demonstrate proficiency in written as well as spoken English. The Graduate Record General Examination (GRE) is required, but may be waived by the division director.
In about 500-1,000 words, we ask that you describe your motivation for seeking graduate study in your chosen program at the School of Communication. The essay is an opportunity for the committee to get to know you, therefore discussions of your relevant qualifications and experiences are encouraged. Please address the following questions:
What specific personal, academic and/or professional experiences will contribute to your success in the program?
How do you envision your degree will further enhance your academic and/or professional goals

Porfolio (optional)
If you do have previous academic or professional experience in a communication or media field, submitting samples of your work will make your application stronger. The best way to submit your portfolio will be to provide a link to an external website or to create a PDF document with links to your work online and upload it as a supplemental item in the online application system. Make sure to submit your portfolio BEFORE the application is complete and all other required supporting documents have been received by the Admissions office. The Admissions Committee is unable to review portfolios after the application is complete.
You must submit unofficial transcripts from all institutions. The unofficial transcript will be used for reference only.
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): You must achieve a required score of at least 100 on the Internet-based test (IBT).
International English Language Testing System (IELTS). You must achieve a minimum score of a 7.0 or higher, combined scores will not be accepted. The test cannot be more than two years old.

The MFA in Games and Interactive Media will help you create bridges and make change through the power of active engagement through games. This terminal degree can be completed in three years and will offer you the qualifications to teach at the university level. Beyond traditional game design and development, students will learn to tailor play design to meet specific goals in player impact, focusing on both theory and practice. The program stretches the students' capacities as designers, developers and administrators and prepares them to take on a variety of creative leadership and instructional roles.<br><br>Students who graduate from the program will be poised for a variety of roles in the creative economy, including instruction and creative leadership. Whether your passion is digital game design, physical computing, virtual reality, analog games, new media art or something else, our MFA lets you develop the skills to create great games.
