The Master of Software Engineering is offered as either a 2-year or 3-year program, depending upon your prior qualifications.
1. Prior qualification: an engineering major from the University of Melbourne
If you hold the following engineering pathway degree from the University of Melbourne, with a weighted average mark of at least 65%, you will be eligible to enter the 2-year program:
Bachelor of Science with a Computing and Software Systems major.
2. Prior qualification: an engineering degree or major
If you hold an engineering degree or major in an equivalent specialisation from another institution, with a weighted average mark of at least 65%, or equivalent*, you may be eligible to receive credit for up to one year and enter the 2-year program. Exact credit can only be determined on application.

3. Prior qualification: any undergraduate degree
You will be eligible to enter the 3-year program if you hold any undergraduate degree with:
The equivalent of 25 points (two subjects) of first year mathematics (any)
The equivalent of 25 points (two subjects) of first year computing, computer science programming (or equivalent)
With a weighted average mark of at least 65%, or equivalent
IELTS total score of at least 6.5 in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0.
TOEFL (internet-based): total score at of least 79 and scores of 21 for writing, 18 for speaking, 13 for reading and 13 for listening.
TOEFL (paper-based): total score of at least 577 with a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English.
