IELTS 6.5 overall (min. 6.0 in each subtest), TOEFL (iBT) 90 overall (min. 23 in writing, 22 in reading, listening and speaking), TOEFL Paper-based Test 577 overall (min. 5.0 in TWE)
Enrolment in this program requires one of the following:
a three year undergraduate degree equivalent to a standard Australian bachelor degree in a discipline including at least three mathematics courses, and a minimum 65% average.
completion of a 3 year BSc in Computer Science or Bioinformatics (or cognate discipline) at UNSW or equivalent, and a minimum 65% average.
completion of the Graduate Diploma in Information Technology, and a minimum 65% average.
completion of the Graduate Certificate in Computing, and a minimum 65% average.
Note:
A discipline including 'at least three mathematics courses' would mean that applicants need to have an appropriate background in several of the following areas:
Discrete Maths
Linear Algebra
Engineering Maths
Calculus
Statistics
Probability
Actuarial Maths
Numerical Methods
Vector Algebra
Advanced standing or exemption can be granted in the MIT for cases where core courses were completed in a prior program. Advanced standing is possible for up to 50% of the program only.

Bioinformatics is an exciting field at the junction of computer science and biology. It deals with the application of computing and mathematical methods to the management, analysis and modelling of biological data, especially in relation to molecular biology.<br><br>Potential employers include research groups in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industries and institutions such as universities, medical research institutes and research hospitals. <br><br>The Bioinformatics stream in the Graduate Diploma and Master of Information Technology programs are targeted at graduates who are interested in applying computer science and computer engineering skills to problems in the life sciences.<br>The Master of Information Technology will provide you with the skills to use todays technology, as well as to create the technology of tomorrow. You will be trained to anticipate future requirements and develop applications, frameworks, products and services to meet those needs in areas such as networking, data mining, robotics and internet services. Â The degrees structure allows you to choose up to two majors from Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, Information Technology, Database Systems, e-Commerce Systems, Data Science and Engineering, and Internetworking. The Master of Information Technology is suitable for graduates with a background in Science or Engineering who want to acquire a solid knowledge of computing and information technology over two years. It is also suitable for graduates from a Computing or Information Technology program who want to broaden, deepen or update their knowledge, these students may qualify for advanced standing and complete the degree in one year full-time.
