Through engaging hands-on field experiences in local elementary schools, students will be prepared to work with students of varying needs and positively impact their lives. You will learn to engage students in inquiry, facilitate learning, develop curriculum, and collect, analyze and interpret student data to inform instruction. The Elementary Education program provides students with the professional education knowledge and skills necessary to teach students with diverse learning needs in kindergarten through grade 6. Upon graduation from this program, students are eligible for a Professional Florida Educator's Certificate for teaching kindergarten through grade 6 students and endorsements in Reading and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). This is a competitive major that prepares University of West Florida graduates for the ever-changing world of education.<br><br>The program prepares individuals to teach reading, writing, science, mathematics, social studies, critical thinking skills, and problem solving strategies to elementary school students.<br><br>Eligibility for initial educator certification in most states is based on completion of a state approved educator preparation program. This program is approved in Florida. Even though you may be residing outside the State of Florida while in this program, your application for educator certification in other States will be processed as an outof'state application. Teachers are advised to contact their individual school districts as to whether this program may qualify for teacher advancement.
