Prior to applying for this program, you need to take the GRE. Scores of 153 verbal/144 quantitative or scores within one standard deviation of the posted mean are required. You also must have a graduate-level GPA of 3.5 of higher and three years of teaching experience. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (iBT), International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 or higher.

Texas Woman's doctoral program will help you develop strategies and techniques that enhance your ability to help preservice and inservice teachers develop literacy expertise, create and implement reading programs, and perform literacy-related research. This is an on-campus program in Denton. With your PhD in Reading Education, you can pursue careers in educational administration, higher education or research. Salaries vary widely. Our faculty are internationally renown for literacy education and intervention. TWU is one of two university training centers in the United States that offers a post-doctoral program to train Reading Recovery trainers and the only university training center in that world that offer training in Descubriendo La Lectura (Reading Recovery in Spanish).
