Applicants hold an advanced degree in education, mathematics, science, technology, or other related fields. In addition, they must have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and a familiarity with public school contexts and a rudimentary awareness of educational research, particularly in the context of mathematics or science education, incoming students are expected to have a strong foundation in mathematics or science.
01. A WSU Graduate School general application (including application fee). In GradCAS search for Washington State University Doctor of Philosophy in Math and Science Education.
02. Current resume or vitae.
03. Letter of Intent. The letter of intent must include:
(a) the reason for pursuing a graduate degree,
(b) a description of teaching or other life experience that relates to graduate study,
(c) a commitment to scholarship or professional development,
(d) a specific research or inquiry interest,
(e) the unique perspective you would bring to the graduate program, and, if applying for an assistantship,
(f) why you would be an effective teacher at the college level.
04. Academic writing sample. This writing sample must be a formal, academic writing sample, such as a thesis or paper.
05. Three letters of reference. The three letters of recommendation, submitted through GradCAS, must address your:
(a) interpersonal skills,
(b) scholarship,
(c) experience with children or youth, and
(d) facility with written, oral, and interpersonal communication.
In addition, if applying for a teaching assistantship, one of the letters must also address your effectiveness as a teacher.
06. Complete Educational History and Transcripts from any colleges/universities:
Where any degrees have been granted or are expected.
That show any graded bachelor's work and/or graduate-level work (including doctoral) taken after the bachelor's degree.
Unofficial copies may be uploaded with your Graduate School application for application review. If admitted, you will be required to submit official copies to the WSU Graduate School.
Official WSU Transcripts are NOT required for coursework taken at WSU.

The PhD. in Mathematics and Science Education is designed to develop scholars capable of making important contributions to the research base, professional context, and learning environments related to mathematics and/or science education. Areas of emphases can include student learning, teacher education, professional development, curriculum, and technology throughout the PK-16 grade spectrum.<br>Our mathematics and science education doctorate degree will help you get ready to make important contributions to the field. Maybe that's in research. Maybe it's by working in school, leading teacher professional development, developing or studying STEM museum exhibits, or in some other professional context. Regardless, your education will increase your versatility.<br><br>The statewide WSU system makes this Ph.D. accessible. Even though you apply for the Pullman campus, you may attend from many of the WSU campuses including: Pullman, Spokane, Tri-Cities, or Vancouver. While Ph.D. programs in education are admitted exclusively to the Pullman campus, select academic programs afford some opportunity for students to access classes and/or advising on one of the other campuses. That includes the Mathematics and Science Education program. Therefore, applicants interested in Mathematics and Science Ph.D. program on one of the other campuses, must apply through the Pullman campus and indicate their intention to take classes in another location.<br>Students have opportunities to study and work with a variety of faculty possessing a range of specializations and research interests.
