The study of Spanish not only provides a comprehensive and practical understanding of using the Spanish language, but also develops intellectual curiosity, critical thinking skills, and appreciation of the humanistic context of international cultures. A major in Spanish can be useful in the many business and service organizations in the United States that need employees who are bilingual in English and Spanish. Hispanics are at present the largest minority in the United States, and Spanish-speaking graduates have the advantage of using their language skills in practical and comprehensive applications. Knowledge of the Spanish language is also useful in international businesses or organizations that interact with the world's many populations who speak Spanish. With additional study, a major in Spanish can lead to work as a Spanish teacher at the high school or college/university level.
