Baccalaureate degree or higher, or equivalent international degree, from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
Minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or greater on baccalaureate degree or equivalent international degree or minimum GPA of 3.0 on a degree higher than a baccalaureate or equivalent international degree.
Evidence of English proficiency (international students only)
Official transcripts demonstrating completion of bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university & certified English translation
Any additional program requirements (writing samples, resume/vita, etc.)
GRE/GMAT scores, if required by program
Adequate academic preparation in the field of specialization

The Master of Arts in Education: Counseling program with a concentration in Mental Health counseling is accredited by CACREP (learn about the value of CACREP accreditation). The Clinical Mental Health Counseling concentration qualifies graduates to obtain the Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) license which is the first post-graduation step in obtaining full licensure as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) in Kentucky (for more information on becoming licensed as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in Kentucky go to http://lpc.ky.gov.). In addition, graduates will meet the academic qualifications for licensure in most states and certification as a National Certified Counselor (NCC). The Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialization boasts a faculty committed to mentoring you as you enter the counseling profession. Faculty members have a wide variety of academic and research interests and clinical experience. This will empower you to acquire foundational clinical skills and knowledge that will initiate your development as a professional mental health counselor.<br><br>As a student, you will have opportunities to provide counseling under supervision at a clinical site consistent with your interests, learn counseling theories, skills, and research based counseling interventions, take part in scholarly activity associated with families, couples, groups, and individuals receiving services at the Talley Family Counseling Center with faculty, develop professional relationships and support systems with other students, develop mentoring relationships with faculty members, and become active in student and professional organizations. You will graduate with knowledge of current issues and trends affecting the profession, how to collaborate and consult with other mental health professionals, how to work with clients from varied cultural and religious perspectives, and the attitudes and skills necessary to make you a successful counselor in your work with diverse clients.
