A bachelorâ€™s degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology or a related field. TOEFL Internet-Based Test (IBT) 100or greater, TOEFL Paper-Based Test (PBT) 600 or greater score. IELTS of 7.0 or greater. Official transcripts from all institutions attended. All international transcripts must be recorded in English or officially translated to English. Applicants without adequate coursework preparation in Education, Psychology, Sociology or a related field may be required to take COU 3103 Helping Skills and, at the discretion of the admissions committee, to complete up to 15 additional hours of preparatory courses as a condition of admission. The Department of Counseling offers the 60 credit hour Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. This clinical program emphasizes creativity, diversity, developmental and relational processes, ethics, and professional identity within Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Students may earn credit toward a state license and/or certification to practice in clinical settings (i.e., Licensed Professional Counselor, etc.). The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program is accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is designed for students who wish to become mental health counselors and meet the curricular requirements for state of Texas counselor licensure (Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC). This program requires 60 semester hours that includes 700 hours of practicum and internship.
