The Graduate College requires a minimum “B” average (3.0 on a 4.0 scale), in a program of study resulting in the award of a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Official transcript of all attended universities
Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or Miller Analogy Test (MAT) official score reports
*May be waived if an advanced degree has been completed
Three (3) letters of recommendation
*Must be from persons who can speak for the candidate's professional competence and academic ability

Statement of Purpose, maximum 2 pages in length, double-spaced, to include the following information:
Reasons for pursuing the counseling profession
Any relevant experience
Personal career goals
Why UNO's Counseling Program would be a good fit
Group interview

9 semester hours in behavioral sciences or closely related fields for Clinical Mental Health and Student Affairs applicants. Can be completed concurrently with the program.
Applicants who do not have an academic background in the social/behavioral sciences are required to 9 credits from these areas. Of these 9 credits, 3 credits must include Abnormal Psychology*. Other examples of courses include, sociology, psychology, anthropology, cultural studies, philosophy, etc. While an undergraduate course is acceptable, professional licensure laws and requirements vary slightly by state. As such, CMHC students are encouraged to take Abnormal Psychology at the graduate level.
While individual programs may require a higher score, the UNO Graduate Council has set a minimum score for admission to graduate studies of 550 paper-based (pBT) TOEFL, 80 internet-based (iBT) TOEFL, 6.5 IELTS, or 53 PTE, with no exceptions to this policy.
