UMass Boston's Gerontology PhD examines the aging process at the individual, family, and community level and the implication of policy on these processes. Our doctoral program is distinctive for its emphasis on the relationship between research, social science, and policy. The program's approach gives special attention to the needs of low income elderly, as well as to issues of racial and cultural diversity. We have graduated more PhDs than any university in the world.
