课程简介
The PhD in gerontology program at Simon Fraser University provides advanced research training in gerontology grounded in an interdisciplinary theoretical foundation, current and prospective substantive issues, a range of research methods and statistical techniques, and knowledge to translate research into practice and policy. This program consists of three core courses, two electives, comprehensive examinations, and a thesis. Students may be required to complete up to two additional courses if deemed necessary by the admissions committee. Students may substitute up to three courses from other programs with departmental approval. Students may also complete one directed studies (GERO 889).

关于西蒙菲莎大学
蒙弗雷泽大学（Simon Fraser University,简称SFU）是以十九世纪探索温哥华地区的探险家西蒙·弗雷泽命名，于1965年成立。是一所中等规模的文理科综合性大学，现有在校学生19000多人。 该校曾多次被加拿大的权威时事杂志Maclean评为加拿大最佳综合学府，一直在加拿大大学综合声誉排行榜上名例前十名，素有“加拿大最有价值的综合大学“的美誉。从建校开始，SFU就拥有激进的名声。在最初的几年内已就教授在校内讨论敏感话题与静坐造成了不稳定。虽然这股风气已经逐渐减退，但总括来说SFU依然被认为是强烈的左翼校园。1960年代的学生激进份子更掀起了一场“文化大革命”去提倡加拿大大学管治的民主。1967年5月，SFU成为了加拿大第一所让学生加入理事会的大学。SFU的激进思想使它创设了创新的与富弹性的课程。举例说，在1968年SFU成为全加拿大第一所为在职经理增设EMBA课程的学府；SFU在1991年也是加拿大学府中最先提供社会学硕士课程的。
