Women's and Gender Studies is an interdisciplinary program that prepares students to think critically and creatively by employing gender as a primary category of analysis. The program is set up to examine a variety of issues of specific interest to women and of general interest to scholars of gender studies across a variety of diverse cultural and historical settings. The Women's and Gender Studies Program offers a major leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree. The program offers a sound course of study with a disciplinary concentration grounding the program's interdisciplinary objectives. Up to six credit hours in required or elective courses for another major may also be applied to the Women's and Gender Studies major. In the two required courses, students become fluent in current tools of research and interpretation employed in women's and gender studies. The goal of the Women's and Gender Studies Program is to educate students in interdisciplinary approaches to feminist and queer theories of gender, sexuality, culture, and society. The program is committed to the study of women, the LGBTQ plus community, and sexuality.
