The requirement for admission into the M.A. program in Legal Studies is an Honours bachelor's degree or the equivalent, with at least high honours standing.
Applicants will be considered for admission on the basis of their academic background and standing. Where relevant, previous professional experience may be taken into account.
The Supervisor of Graduate Studies may, in some circumstances, recommend that applicants with exceptional promise who have less than BA (Honours) status be admitted into a qualifying-year program designed to raise their standing to honours status.
Applicants without a background in law may be required to complete one or more designated courses from the department's undergraduate program before taking courses towards the master's degree.
IELTS - Overall 6.5 (minimum 6.0 in each band).
TOEFL iBT - 86 (20 in reading and listening, 22 in speaking and writing)
TOEFL PBT - overall score of 580.

Organized around the theme of law and social transformation, this interdisciplinary MA program is designed for students interested in developing a rigorous and critical understanding of how law works, the different ways individuals encounter and challenge law, the changing means by which regulation takes place and the relationship between law, nation, citizenship and belonging. Our students participate in ongoing research and seminar series sponsored by the Department of Law and Legal Studies, including the Jurisprudence Center and the Graduate Culture Seminar.<br><br>A first of its kind in Canada, Carleton University's collaborative PhD with Specialization in African Studies is designed for graduates of the master's programs in the humanities and the social sciences who, through interdisciplinary research, wish to enrich and deepen their training in a particular discipline or area of study by developing expertise in African Studies.<br><br>The collaborative master's program with a Specialization in African Studies is especially designed for Carleton University master's students in participating programs in the Faculties of Arts and Social Science, Public Affairs, and the Sprott School of Business who wish to enrich their training by developing expertise in African Studies through interdisciplinary dialogue.
