Applicants should show the potential for excellent scholarship, an academic record with at least a few grades of A- or better (or the equivalent in those systems using different standards) in several upper year political science courses, and enthusiastic letters of reference from former professors. The minimum requirement for admission is a cumulative grade point average of B+ in a four-year bachelor's program including a B+ average over five to eight suitably distributed full-year political science courses (of which at least one ought to be in Political Theory). Enrolment in the program is limited, and meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. TOEFL: Paper-Based Test and TWE- Overall Score 580 TWE: 5, Internet-Based Test (IBT): 93, Writing/Speaking: 22. IELTS: Minimum required score: 7.0 (Academic)with at least 6.5 for each component.

The field of Political Economy of International Development offers students an opportunity to explore contemporary issues of poverty, inequality, ecological sustainability, and political violence in the global south from an interdisciplinary, political-economic perspective. Students must complete four full course equivalents and must satisfy the following requirements: POL2408H One full credit equivalent from the Political Science section of the PEID list of courses At least one half course from the Outside Courses section of the PEID list One of the Department's MA research seminars (POL 2810Y or 2811Y) with a research focus on a topic of political economy of international development One additional half course from one of the three sections of the PEID list of courses
