A student’s record overall clearly should reflect the ability to pursue advanced study, conduct research, and write effectively in the field selected. Applicants should document a strong preparation in the liberal arts. The applicant is expected to have at least a 3.25 average in the last 60 semester credit hours of course work and at least 12 semester credit hours of upper-division undergraduate or graduate work in the major field. Applicants are required to submit a statement of purpose to the department. Two letters of recommendation are required. Applicants who do not meet the above prerequisites at the time of application may, under exceptional circumstances, be recommended for provisional admission by the department. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of at least 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (iBT), International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 or higher.

Our master's in history focuses on social and political history in the United States, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean to properly address the needs of students who seek a thorough understanding of history and historiography. Students admitted to our program will select one of the following options with consultation and approval of their graduate committee. The student's graduate committee may require completion of more than the minimum number of semester credit hours indicated and specify courses to be included in the student's individual degree.<br><br>Our public history master's degree track prepares students to execute the translation, interpretation and presentation of historical information in museums, archives, historical homes, libraries, national and state parks, historic and conservation agencies and local, state and national government agencies. Students will also work alongside their major professor to determine which elective courses to take and which internships to pursue.
