Students in each of these tracks will work closely with our award-winning faculty as they develop expertise and research projects in the fields of their choice. Our specializations include the histories of the United States, Nevada and the West, Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa, transnational connections, science and medicine, and the environment. We also train students in cutting-edge approaches to digital history and museum studies through our Shared History program and support the professional development of educators through our M.A.T. program.

The M.A.T. in history is ideal for secondary teachers of social studies and history who want to expand their knowledge in a specific historical field. We offer coursework and advising that you can easily combine with a current career in the classroom. We will provide you with opportunities to collaborate with faculty in the College of Education and Human Development and help guide you through constructing a historically innovative unit of curriculum that you can take into the classroom. Note that this degree program does not lead to a Nevada public schools teaching certificate for grades K-12, since prospective students generally already have this credential when they apply.
