Completion of the equivalent of an American upper-secondary school education (approximately 12 years of formal education beginning at age six) as well as the appropriate diplomas or satisfactory results on leaving examinations.
Academic Preparation. Strong academic preparation and a U.S.-equivalent cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (for freshman applicants) or 2.0 college/university grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

The History Department allows students great latitude in creating a course of study that will reflect their interests and career objectives. We encourage students to take the survey courses that will prepare them for upper-division courses that intrique them, but generally speaking our courses do not have prerequisites, allowing tremendous scheduling freedom. Many history courses taken during a study abroad semester can be used to fulfil these requirements as well, making it easy to complete the major in a relatively short time, even if off campus.
